English Village at 100: A Centennial Walking Tour

Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the English Village, one of suburban Philadelphia's most distinctive historic neighborhoods, with a guided walking tour. The English Village, located in Wynnewood, Pa., is known for its picturesque Tudor Revival architecture, winding streets, and remarkably intact historic character. Its cohesive design, richly detailed homes, and carefully planned setting give the neighborhood the feeling of an authentic Tudor village.
 

Led by the Lower Merion Conservancy in partnership with the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia, the tour will explore the neighborhood’s history, architecture, and notable past-residents, including multiple celebrated artists. Participants will also have the rare opportunity to step inside several special homes and see firsthand the craftsmanship and details that make English Village such an enduring landmark.

Accessibility/Transportation: Tour participants are encouraged to take public transportation, if possible. The English Village is located approximately one mile from the Wynnewood, Pa. train station. The walk from the station to the village winds through a historic early twentieth-century neighborhood. On Saturdays, the Paoli Thorndale Line operates a train that leaves Suburban Station at 1:05 p.m. and arrives at Wynnewood at 1:30 p.m.
 
Alternatively, participants can drive and park on nearby streets. Please do not park in the English Village neighborhood. The streets are narrow and parking is intended for residents. 
 

Preservation Alliance walking tours utilize an audio system that transmits from a headset worn by the guide to earpieces worn by tour attendees. The equipment is thoroughly sanitized before and after each use. Tour attendees can also plug in their personal headsets or earbuds that use a standard headphone jack (Not compatible with Bluetooth or Apple earphones).
