The Poquessing: Discover Philadelphia’s Forgotten Creek

Explore the Poquessing Creek, which forms the northern boundary of Philadelphia with Bucks County and has sustained life in the region for thousands of years, going back to the area’s original inhabitants, the Lenape. Philadelphia Water Department Historian Adam Levine, renowned expert on water and waterways in the city, leads a 3-mile tour that winds along the Poquessing Creek Trail and visits two historic bridges over the creek. The Poquessing is one of the only creeks in Philadelphia whose network of feeder streams and runs has been preserved; the tributaries of most other creeks in the city have been paved over and converted into sewers. Come get to know and enjoy Philadelphia's forgotten creek, the Poquessing!   

Know Before You Go:  

The walk will take place on a paved trail that in some sections is inclined. Please wear comfortable outdoor walking shoes, bring water, and dress for the weather. Park in the public parking area for the Parkwood Playground soccer fields at 3155 Mechanicsville Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19154—just west of the intersection of Dunks Ferry and Mechanicsville Roads and just past the large PARKWOOD sign on the Parkwood gym—and we will walk together to the trailhead from there.
