YFPA Heart-Showering

Each year, YFPA selects a site that deserves public attention and decorates it with paper hearts, a practice known as heart-showering. For 2026, we will spotlight the historic Germantown YWCA. Constructed in 1915, the Y was a prominent institutional building on Germantown Avenue that played a significant role in the social, cultural, and civic life of Northwest Philadelphia for much of the 20th century. Despite its significance, the Germantown YWCA has been vacant for decades. Prolonged disinvestment and deferred maintenance have left the building in deteriorating condition, raising ongoing concerns among neighbors, preservation advocates, and community members about its long-term future.

Join us on Valentine's Day to place paper hearts on the building to foster public engagement and awareness-building.
