What happens when a city begins to lose the places that give neighborhoods their identity? In Philadelphia, that question is no longer theoretical.
The Preservation Alliance is leading the advocacy efforts on several defining preservation battles:
• Opposing harmful changes proposed in Bill No. 251030, legislation that would significantly alter Philadelphia’s historic preservation ordinance and weaken protections for designated historic properties.
• Supporting legal and advocacy efforts connected to the future of the Washington Square West Historic District, where an ongoing court case may result in the loss of protections for the character and integrity of this historically significant neighborhood.
• Leading statewide advocacy to strengthen and expand Pennsylvania’s Historic Preservation Tax Credit program, which has the potential to be one of the Commonwealth’s most important tools for community revitalization, adaptive reuse, and economic development.
• Collaborating with partners, including the President’s House/Slavery Memorial Alliance and the Avenging the Ancestors Coalition, for the restoration and full interpretation of the President's House Site.
The Preservation Alliance remains the only nonprofit organization in the greater Philadelphia region engaged in comprehensive preservation advocacy.
